Project:
Wind Chimes
This project was done with various found objects and craft materials.
The “chimes” can be suspended from a circular center or
from a straight stick across the top. What’s most important is
that the objects be able to catch the wind and bump into each other
to create pleasing sounds. The weight of the objects and strength of
the wind where the chimes will be displayed dictate what materials are
most appropriate.
Materials: Pieces of metal of various sizes, shapes, weights and tones;
sticks; thin wire; strong thread; and any other desired material for
color or design.
Procedure: Start with a strong top piece. Tie wire or string onto the
various pieces that you want to hang. Tightly attach these pieces to
the top by twisting the wire onto it. Decorate with material or paint
as you wish. Finally, attach a piece of wire to the top to hang it on
something in the wind.
