Global Consonances I     Saturday Afternoon
September 16      noon to 6:00 PM      Custom House Plaza

Formed in a small French village in the Loire Valley in 1982 by Denis Péan and Richard Bourreau as a vehicle for exploring different styles of music, Lo'Jo performed at local events, during which musicians, dancers and sculptors often joined the group. Lo'Jo mutated into a veritable tribe and adopted the name Lo'Jo Triban.
Péan and the tribe developed a distinctive sound, a mix of Arabic and Romany intonations, rock, dub, circus music, avant-garde theatre, samples of Rajasthani, Spanish, and English. Critics have hailed Lo'Jo's multi-cultural style and uncompromising stance as a natural progression from earlier French rebels Les Negresses Vertes. The L.A. Times says: " … French group Lo'Jo, led by the gravelly voiced, cabaret-style singing and keyboard work of Denis Pe'an, was enhanced by group co-founder Richard Bourreau's violin and the symbiotic singing of sisters Nadia and Yamina Nid El Mourid, Lo'Jo fused sounds of the Mediterranean and Africa into a seamless, colorful tapestry of music."

This is the greatest band in the history of the Universe!
