The
classic 1928 silent Russian film by Vsevolod Pudovkin, "Storm
Over Asia - Heir of Genghis Khan", has been called a "Formalist
masterpiece." Presented here, original and uncensored, it
is accompanied by celebrated Tuvian fusion throat-singing sensation,
Yat-Kha. Produced by Marek Pytel, the
digitally formatted projection together with the live musical backdrop
creates a brand new context for both form and substance. Old and
new go head to head, politics crash into religion
dazzling
poignant
epic.
"You
can be confident that something as bizarre sounding as the combination
of a 1928 silent film with Tuvan folk music will make a great night
out. The music is provided by throat-singing sensation Yat-Kha, whose
guttural incantations and traditional instrumentation provide the
backing for Vsevolod Pudovkin's much-referenced but rarely seen "Storm
Over Asia." Yat-Kha's appearance is a rare treat for lovers of
Eastern music, but they are far from folk purists and have even been
known to drop the odd Black Sabbath riff into their set."
