From
the hazy blue mountains to the magnificent endless coastline,
there is a timeless beauty to Vietnam. There is a sense of serenity
that seems to grow from the rich red soil. The land is so full of life
that poetry and song seem almost inadequate to describe it. Yet as life
and love abound in Vietnam, so too do songs of life and love. The Khac-Chi
Ensemble's innovative use of instruments from the Vietnamese highlands
results in a rich, warm sound that closely mirrors the textures of the
rural landscapes. Many of their instruments are quite unusual and unique
to the tribal peoples of Vietnam, such as the k'longput bamboo pipes
which the performer has no direct contact but plays by cupping the hands
and clapping directly in front of the open pipes, or the t'rung, a large
bamboo xylophone which resembles a suspension bridge!

has gained a new audience throughout North America and Europe, with
their first album reaching the Top Ten of World Music charts. They bring
a feeling of musical wonder and vitality to the stage, leaving a lasting
impression of the Spirit of Vietnam.
