Digital Dreamsong was a collaboration between the Department of Visual and Public Art at California State University, Monterey Bay and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County.
We started with the concept of digital dreams and wanted to focus on dreams of the children at the Boys and Girls Club. A songwriter visited class to help us compose a song as an inspiration for the artwork. The song he and the class wrote is called “In the Land of the Boys and Girls.”

After we came up with the main chorus, we collaborated with the children to write lyrics that described their dreams. We integrated these lyrics into colorful images.

We created landscapes for the backgrounds and then placed pictures of the kids within these dreamscapes. The university students enjoyed the opportunity to work with the youngsters. It gave them new perspectives of how to create artwork.

The posters are displayed on MST buses. They make the ride much more pleasurable for everyone who sees these beautiful works of public art.
